Passed away in her 96th year at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on February 17th, 2023. She fought bravely against dementia with her loving family by her side. Cherished mother of Jerzy (Teresa) and Jan (Renata), and grandmother/Babcia of David, Anna (Łukasz), Derek, and Adrian. Also great-grandmother of Alicja and Antek. Maria was born and raised in the rural town of Kasinka Mała, Poland. Dear sister of Janina and predeceased by Władysław, Helena, Aleksandra, Julian and Jan. Her strong “Góral” spirit allowed her to remain resilient through World War II, the early loss of her husband, and even childbirth in a wagon.

Maria’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She arrived in Canada in 1988, and her voice could be heard every Saturday at St. Hedwig’s Church, a community she loved. She took comfort in praying the rosary daily. Her unique sayings brought laughter to her home. Her wisdom provided support and guidance, summed up by a favourite saying: “Prayer and labour, makes us prosper.” Her strength, love, and humour will be remembered always.

Visitation with prayers will be held on Monday February 27th from 5-8 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday February 28th at 10 a.m. at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
